“The Gates of Hell” by the author Fivos Kyprianou. (Interview)
“The Gates of Hell”, therefore, open wide and wait to welcome the intrepid reader who will travel through the pages of the book…
– Fivo, tell us a few words about yourself. Where are you from, and how long have you been writing? When was the book “The Gates of Hell” written and presented?
I was born in Nicosia and my parents come from the beautiful province of Kyrenia. I have been writing since a young age, I have always liked to write and create my own worlds, worlds without predetermined rules and molds. I have always enjoyed the unpretentious and enchanting sense of freedom offered by the pen of the writer and creator. The book “The Gates of Hell” was released in 2020 in Athens but in fact the book was written in 1998 and it is my first writing work and after so many years I had the opportunity to publish it. The truth is that I didn’t make enough changes from the style of 1998, although I could have, but I wanted to leave the same style that was originally written, I considered it somewhat as an obligation to myself at that time…
– Where did you get the inspiration for this book Fivo and what made you come up with this title?
The inspiration….now you’re asking me hard…., from a young age horror movies have been my favorite, and we’re talking about a time when access to horror movies was a bit more “painful”. Beyond VHF the chaos… as you can see my influences were mainly horror movies but also the events of the time, with the news bulletins then not missing an opportunity for anything “satanic”, or anything else that was different from the usual.. but also above all that it would resonate with an audience that was more intellectually backward than today…. Besides that writers like CliveBarker, GrahamMasterton, Stephenking, H.PLovecraft and others, holy monsters of horror, are among my influences….
– What is the description of this book and where does it aim?
The Gates of Hell is a supernatural horror book. A mountain village in Cyprus is rocked by a series of repeated unexplained explosions. The local authorities and not only try to find the cause although somewhere behind the scenes some people know things and situations ..it’s a really interesting book that will keep the reader until the end, whether someone likes horror or not…
– Is there a message you are giving the public with this book? If yes, what is the message of this book?
Message?….I don’t believe in messages through books, rather everyone can discover their own personal message if they want to look for it…
– Where can we buy your book?
In Greece it can be found in all bookshops, in Cyprus can be found in most bookshops and also online for worldwide here: https://www.universepaths.com/product-page/%CE%BF%CE%B9-%CF%80%CF%8D%CE%BB%CE%B5%CF%82-%CF%84%CE%B7%CF%82-%CE%BA%CE%BF%CE%BB%CE%AC%CF%83%CE%B5%CF%89%CF%82-%CF%84%CE%BF%CF%85-%CF%86%CE%BF%CE%AF%CE%B2%CE%BF%CF%85-%CE%BA%CF%85%CF%80%CF%81%CE%B9%CE%B1%CE%BD%CE%BF%CF%8D
– Fivo, are you preparing another horror book in the future or is it in your thoughts? If so what is it?
In December I will publish my fourth book, “Curse” a detective thriller-horror book.. set in three historical periods with a plot starting from the 19th century to the present day, where a series of gruesome murders, with no audience, leads to a series of shocking revelations….
-Last question. What do you think about today’s society that we live in? Do you think they don’t love books anymore? Is there no response anymore? Do you think that the advanced technology led today’s society in that road or today’s society led itself away?
The society we live in…ok of course I couldn’t have a positive opinion, because after all…I consider it a society, and I speak in general and not on an individual level so as not to be misunderstood, which is full of hypocrisy. In all areas. And a characteristic smell of weakness… And a characteristic smell of weakness and reluctance for important intersections and decisions… lextalionis unfortunately does not apply in our society. Of course there are worthy units in society but I don’t think they are the majority. Regarding the book I believe that the book is immortal despite technology, paper and ink have a history of thousands of years and I don’t think that will change despite technology. I would say that the book goes hand in hand with the technology and they are not in any competition….
In closing Eleni I would like to thank you for the interview and congratulate you on your beautiful and very informative website!
